THE ‘FOOD FOR FAMILIES’ APPEAL

DISPLACED CAMBODIANS PAY A HEAVY PRICE

Cambodia is no stranger to war with memories of the Khmer Rouge still strong in many places  but at heart, most Khmer are peaceable people just wanting to live ordinary lives.

Support Cambodia have been asked if we can help by providing Emergency Food Packs at a cost of $40 (£30) each.

If you’ve been following news of the fighting on the Thailand-Cambodia border, you will know there is now an uneasy ceasefire which may or may not hold. A direct result of this latest flare-up is that tens of thousands of ordinary Cambodians have been unwittingly caught up in this centuries-old dispute and have been forced to either return home from Thailand [where many go to work outside the rice season] or flee inland in order to seek refuge and safety away from the conflict zone.

In the last ten days, communities all over North-West  Cambodia have been taking in displaced families and there is a widespread effort now being made within the region to help them eg: Apostolic Prefecture of Battambang [pictured below].

Support Cambodia have been made aware of at least 80 displaced families in the area west of Battambang, around the rural villages of Tampoung and Knach Romeas.

Our charity has supported the Tampoung community in many ways over the last 10 years, currently funding a Rice Soup Programme there for local children and vulnerable adults.

But Tampoung, like Knach Romeas, is a very poor rural community which doesn’t have the extra resources needed to support displaced families who now have no home, no job and no income as a result of the fighting.

Support Cambodia have been asked if we can help by providing Emergency Food Packs at a cost of $40 (£30) each.

So, from FRIDAY 1st AUGUST to SATURDAY 9th AUGUST inclusive there will be a “Food for Families” Appeal to raise money specifically for Emergency Food Packs for displaced families in the villages of Tampoung and Knach Romeas.

Any contribution you’d like to make, however small, will be very gratefully received: “small money, big difference”. Thank you.

As always, the charity will take no costs from donations received and the option to Gift Aid is available for those already registered with Support Cambodia.

Please reference all donations ‘APPEAL’.

Thank you for Supporting Cambodia
