The Soups, Slides & Crafts’ event at North Walsham on March 10th raised all the funds needed to put up the new Community Building at Pheasabao Village in Pailin Province – Sister Vangie Dunton’s latest project. A wonderful effort from the 70+ people who attended the lunch and a number of others who contributed. Thank you all so much.
The construction of the Community Building will enable: *DAY CARE FOR UNDER 5’s *LITERACY CLASSES *VILLAGE MEETINGS *SOCIAL ACTIVITIES * LOCAL SHOP *TRAINING IN COMPOST-MAKING.
The Building will be similar to the [very old!] one in the picture but will also include a secure storage space. The villagers will help with the construction and take responsibility for the upkeep.
The Compost-Making course has been requested by local farmers wishing to replace expensive commercial fertilizer with their own homemade ‘green’ variety. They plan to grow rice and vegetables on land adjacent to the village which already has a recently installed borewell [not Support Cambodia].
PROJECT UPDATE [June 2018]: The Community Building at Pheasabao Village in Pailin Province was completed in mid-May and and is now in use for Literacy Class [pictured below], village meetings and training courses. The best news is that, from the autumn, Day Care Classes for the youngest children in the village will be established [registration awaited]. This is a big step forward and will avoid the need for the little ones to travel to Kon Damrai School, a long journey over difficult terrain. Well done to Sister Vangie and the villagers who saw the project through and to all who contributed so generously to the funding.
