What an extraordinary day! Our big fundraising event for the year at Ivy Cottage, Wickmere raised [to date] a staggering £3082.10 for clean water projects in North-West Cambodia – an unbelievable result!!!
The target was £550 to complete the £1200 Ochra Kandal Borewell Project [see ‘Projects’ for details and pictures] but effective advertising [thank you to Woodgate Nursery for sponsoring this] and the dozen or so Yard Sales taking place simultaneously in Wickmere Village provided an added incentive for a larger-than-anticipated footfall…and it showed! Wickmere is not the most accessible place in Norfolk but access and car parking were carefully signed and [most!] people had no problem finding the attractions on offer.
Fresh Produce, Preserves & Flowers Handmade Jewellery, Collectibles, Gifts, Plants, Cambodian Crafts, and a wonderful selection from Tuliptree Fabrics [Marsham] plus sweets from Carousel Chocolates [two of the charity’s six Sponsors] enticed visitors to wander round Ivy Cottage garden in search of hidden delights. A really high quality Raffle proved very popular [and lucrative] especially the top prize kindly donated by another of the charity’s Sponsors, S&M Supplies [Aylsham] Ltd, not to mention two very large and very appealing furry friends [thank you Pat Wright].
Grateful thanks also to: Amazona Zoo, Peggy Little’s Products [Charity Sponsor], Woodforde’s Brewery, G. F. White [Butchers], Bon Bon’s [Aylsham], The Black Boys Public House and Groveland Farm Shop.
While early visitors took advantage of sampling delicious burgers and hotdogs at the Village Hall [thanks Terry & Richard], demand for afternoon teas at Ivy Cottage kept Clare Glenn and her team working flat out to keep up. “I never thought we’d have so many people! “, said Clare. What a great job they did too – as did so many others who worked tirelessly to make such a successful and enjoyable day.
Sincere thanks to each one of them, to all who contributed in any way and to the public and Wickmere residents for so wholeheartedly “Supporting Cambodia” – and really making a difference.
NOTE: Money remaining following completion of the Borewell will be used for future Water Projects.
