After a good breakfast at the Moloporr Coffee Shop next to the (excellent) City River Hotel, we waited in vain for the (booked) taxi…..which had gone to the wrong hotel and clearly had even less idea of the geography of Siem Reap than we did.
An hour’s drive brought us to Rohal Primary School, where Support Cambodia has done a number of projects in the past few years.
Change of plan! No school today! All the teachers and parents have gone to Svay Sisophon for a very important meeting with the Government. Come back later! OK….so we had the privilege of a very pleasant few hours with the family of Dr Nhor Chamrom, enjoying delicious ‘country style’ cooking and admiring their fruit trees.
Finally, to the school…and the ‘royalty experience’ of walking down lines of children, brought in specially to stand in the sun and say ‘choom reap sooa’ on repeat! (NB to Queen Camilla: I’ve got the certificate and can sub you anytime!!)
Very good meeting with Principal Bun Sarak and his staff, inspection of our two hand washes, popular playground equipment sports facilities and the very well used-library.
Maria presented SC dollars to pay for minor repairs and more library books and we left a ‘Karuna’ bear to keep an eye on things.
Excellent Headteacher, committed staff, supportive parents and friendly, happy children=very good local school. Support Cambodia are delighted and honoured to be able to help Rohal Primary School stay that way.
