Kompong Kleang, the large stilted fishing village on the edge of the Tonle Sap Lake and the focus for Support Cambodia’s fundraising efforts last summer. Or, more accurately, the St. Mary’s Kindergarten in the village where 30 children come five days a week with an extra ‘Saturday Club’ for 80-100 mixed age youth. Rice soup is served for both groups and Support Cambodia have funded both this and the salaries of the two teachers for the last 12 months (special thanks to the Crombie family).
The lead teacher, Ms Choung Eng (spelling probably wrong!) is excellent, quite strict, but the children clearly like her and respond very well. The pictures and videos tell the story. Thanks to Fr Yacob Chilka for his time and making our visit possible.
Later, we collect the craft order from our good friend Kunthea who runs a stall in Siem Reap Old Market. We have bought from Kunthea for a number of years and she always does us “good price”. The sheer bulk of the parcels means we decide to forgo a cold drink in one of the many bars and take advantage of Happy Hour cocktails at the hotel – BOGOF. Your correspondent is not normally a cocktail fan, but Singapore Sling and Frozen Margarita at a knock-down price is too good to miss!

Suitably inspired, we then sample another of Rosemary’s restaurants: this time ‘Angkor Hand-Pulled Noodles and Dumplings’ near the Night Market. Absolutely delicious, especially the dumplings with a dip, a bit like ravioli but lighter. Price pp including drinks: just over £5…we’re not coming home!!!!
