Trustee Visit 2026 – Day Eleven

Sunday breakfast at the Peace Cafe, a tranquil oasis in the bustling heart of Siem Reap. Everything here at this not-for-profit enterprise is freshly prepared, organic and vegan. There’s a choice of tables, squashy seats or recliners under the trees for relaxation, peace and contemplation. From time to time the sound of trainee Buddhist monks learning to chant adds to the atmosphere. A fair trade shop supports sustainable outreach projects by selling local Cambodian crafts and also offers courses in meditation, vegan cookery and yoga.

In contrast, a tuk tuk ride into the city centre gives a different view. It’s a gracious city, the wide boulevards a remnant of its French colonial past with many high class hotels like Raffles and Chateau d’Angkor set among lush vegetation and tropical gardens.

Alternatively, the backbackers, bars, bright lights and unbelievably loud music of Pub Street are only a short ride away – there’s something for everyone here.
