Trustee Visit 2026 – Day Eight

Peaksnaeng Chas is a village west of Angkor, Siem Reap. Betty’s dressmaking group who make our unique headscarves, are based there and it was great to visit today and see them all again.

As a result of 2025 sales of headscarves we were able to give the seven women workers a small bonus each….which obviously went down very well! And Karuna was able to catch up with a couple of mates too.

This is a very well run enterprise, providing both a popular service for the local community and dignity with purpose for the women. Betty also has a brilliant micro-finance scheme – more of this at a later date.

We purchased another 16 headscarves and a new line – oven gloves – which we will probably sell at £2.50-£3.00. The headscarves will remain at £5 and will be stocked by Big C Cancer Charity at their shops in Norwich and at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Support Cambodia have a collaboration with Big C and on Monday we were delighted to be able to present a medical kit donated by them to Dr Nhor Chamrom, Manager of the Welcome Center for the Sick in Battambang. Thank you Big C!

After that, a relaxing two hours at the nearby Jesus Farm, enjoying the tranquility, traditional homemade food and lively conversation with Fr Totet and Filipino lay missionary Med Laurito. Thank you for your time and hospitality, Fr Totet.

To end the day, the result of Rosemary’s ntensive research: more home cooked Khmer cuisine at Sambo family restaurant near the Riverside Night Market. A good discovery this place, well worth a repeat visit. And amazingly, we managed to walk back through the Night Market without buying anything!! Still….there’s always tomorrow…..
