The Village School Project UPDATE

THIS PROJECT HAS HAD TO BE CANCELLED – AN EXPLANATION

Those who came to Support Cambodia’s hugely successful Table Top Sale in the Market Place in early August contributed at phenomenal £420 [for which we were very grateful] towards rebuilding the tiny village school at remote Cheang Thom Village in Pailin province,  North-Western Cambodia.

However, since then, news has been received that quite independently and unknown to Support Cambodia, the Ford Car Company has given the village a new, multi classroom school worth $20.000!!!! Yes, you did read that correctly!! This is a level of donation Support Cambodia could never aspire to and so while we are delighted the village has it’s new school, the news left us with a small problem.

In British charity law, all monies given to a specific project cannot be diverted elsewhere unless the donors agree .
So the plan now is that the £540 already raised will be used to help rebuild the Day Care Unit at another school in the same very poor area. This is Kon Damrai Primary School where Support Cambodia provided two borewells and a kitchenette in 2017/18 and which has been visited by our Trustees several times, most recently in January this year. For further details of this project please return to the NEWS page and click on KON DAMRAI DAY CARE.

If anyone who generously contributed to the original village school project wishes further information or has any objection to the new proposal, they are invited to contact the charity.
