UPDATE: FEBRUARY 2024:
Betty’s project is going from strength to strength with orders for bed sheets, and various clothing items coming in. There are still just seven ladies in the group [plus teacher Komsot pictured right] and the benefit is starting to extend not just to seven families but to the whole community. Trustee Maria Brown spent a morning with the group during her visit in October [see ‘Maria’s Cambodia Visit’ in the NEWS section of this website] and presented them with sewing magazines and paper patterns. We hope to send more patterns out in the next “Box” transport.
Maria also left the ladies a phone case she already had from a previous visit and has asked them to make a sample [see left]If successful, we might be able to have these available on our craft stalls. Watch this space!!
Because the ladies are still not very experienced, the services of a sewing teacher are still crucial to the development of the project so SUPPORT CAMBODIA have agreed to continue funding the teacher for a further six months as well as providing sewing supplies for the group.

SEPTEMBER 2023: The ladies of Betty Millena’s Dressmaking Group [Siem Reap] have graduated!! After 6 months of tuition [funded by the Cannosian Sisters, Hong Kong] and lots and lots of practice, the ladies were delighted to receive their certificates from Father Totet! And they were wearing the clothes they’d made – presented to them as gifts from Betty. Many congratulations ladies!!
Stage 1 of the project is now complete and Support Cambodia are delighted to be funding Stage 2 by providing material and dressmaking sundries to enable garment orders to be taken from local people.
