Okoon Charen! thank you so much to everyone who has so far donated to the Emergency Appeal.
The ONLINE ZOOM QUIZ on Saturday 21st November raised another wonderful £290. Grateful thanks to all who took part and to the Thomson family for organising a really enjoyable evening. The final Appeal total will be announced in the first week of December.
A truly amazing response has meant that we have been able to send immediate help to two areas: Snaeng, Laem and a number of other rural locations in Pailin Province plus Nikum, Chomnaom and Tampung, all in Battambang Province. Most of the pictures above are from Chomnaom Village [between Battambang and Svay Sisophon] where, after community discussion, food packs for 40 families have been organised and distributed.
Two other centres have requested help but wish to wait and asses the situation. As one of our contacts put it, “At present, there are many emergency reliefs: from the government, Red Cross, NGOs, companies, or rich people. As usual, there is much attention to the victims in the beginning, but they will forget them afterwards. Then, the help will be needed to build their lives again”.
So we have kept back a proportion of the money donated so far, exactly for this purpose and it will be sent out later, when it is clearer what the needs are. So help is still needed to…..replant crops such as cassava, vegetables and rice….replace chickens, many of which were sadly drowned in the flood water… and rebuild homes damaged by the water.
These are not luxuries, but essentials for rural families to survive and they don’t have the savings to do it themselves.
