The [7th] Support Cambodia borewell at Day So Primary School, Pailin Province. Huge thanks to the ‘Gorleston Ladies’ for raising most of the money for this essential improvement to the school.
As you can see from the pictures, the previous method of collecting water was neither efficient nor healthy. Previously the children would collect water from the pool in the evening, allow it to settle overnight and then use for drinking! Sick children don’t learn…so it will be interesting to see whether the change of water supply will make a difference to their health and school attendance. There’s been a marked improvement in the other schools where we have installed borewells and/or provided filters so we’ll wait and see….The test slide [courtesy of Gill Griffith, Safe Water Trust] says it all!
There is already a Support Cambodia kitchenette on the site which enables rice soup to be provided every week and the well will make this so much easier to produce.
If you would like to contribute to Support Cambodia water projects, why not consider having a Home Collecting Jar for your loose change? All the money from the jars goes to water projects and has raised £2000 in 2 years. See our ABOUT US page for details
