Support Cambodia Annual Appeal 2018 will run for the whole of September and, as last year, we are raising funds for the Rice Soup & Baby Milk Programmes in Svay Sisophon in Banteay Meanchey Province. This provides a regular rice meal for some of the poorest children in the Svay area and formula milk for the mothers of new-born twins. Unlike most of our projects which are ‘one-offs-, Support Cambodia are committed to funding this programme every year.
Svay Sisophon is an unremarkable town of 100, 000 people, set a vast hinterland of rice fields about 25 miles from the Thai border. There’s little industry and the main occupations are rice farming and fishing.Lack of opportunity means that many are forced to cross the border to find work in Thailand.
Banteay Meanchey is the poorest province in Cambodia and the daily wage for many is not enough for a family to live on, so these programmes are a lifeline, especially for the very youngest.
In addition, for this year only, we are also supporting other centres in North-West Cambodia running similar social/nutritional/maternal health programmes. We will be actively fundraising for the Appeal at 4 events during September [see our DIARY page for details] culminating in the RACE NIGHT at North Walsham on Saturday 29th. PLEASE NOTE : THE APPEAL IS NOW CLOSED . For pictures of very enjoyable and successful Race Night, please click on our Facebook Page.
PARTICULAR THANKS TO THOSE LOCAL BUSINESSES WHO SUPPORTED THE RACE NIGHT, EITHER THROUGH SPONSORSHIP OR BY DONATING RAFFLE PRIZES:

A real bonus this year is that ‘SUPPORTER‘ Moira Selvage from Gorleston is undertaking a 5 week-long, 500 mile Sponsored Walk along the Ignatian Camino from Loyola to Monserrat. Moira is generously donating all her sponsor money to Appeal and hopes to finish in Monserrat around October 4th.
UPDATE OCTOBER 5th: : Moira has indeed arrived in Monserrat – a wonderful achievement – thanks be to God and thank you Moira.
