The upgrading of the Tampung Student Centre near Battambang is finally complete. Starting with the study room extension in 2016, followed by the dormitory renovation in 2017 and now the re-flooring of the whole building, Support Cambodia have funded all of this plus windows, new bedding, furniture, study materials, a projector and screen and 12 bikes for students to access the local high school. A significant proportion of this has come from a single private donor who wishes to remain anonymous and to whom the charity are enormously grateful. We hope to be able to acknowledge this with a small plaque on the building,
Apart from being home to a dozen or so young people who have no other place to live, the Centre also acts as a study hub for the local village and the 70+ young people who attend local schools. After school classes in English, Khmer and other school subjects take place daily and the villagers have recently started to meet for a weekly prayer group and study. The new flooring has extended to the kitchen – a huge improvement! – and the area outside the building has been cleared and planted. The young people at Tampung are delighted – and Support Cambodia are very happy to have been able to help.
