Phnom Priel and Prey Santeas are two very remote communities in Pailin Province, about 40 kilometres from the nearest town. Both places have a primary school with around 250 children in each. Until 2015 and 2016 respectively, neither had a supply of clean drinking water. Support Cambodia have sunk borewells in both places which has enabled a rice feeding programme to be set up. However, this can only operate for part of the year as there is no shelter during the rainy season. Hence the need for ‘kitchenettes ‘ – basic structures like the one in the picture below – which enables rice soup to be produced all the year round. It also acts as a covered area for other activities eg: story telling, games and meetings so the investment is good value. Each kitchenette costs $400 [about £320] and Support Cambodia are funding two of these.
UPDATE [7th August’17]: Thanks to many generous people and our wonderful SUPPORTERS in Cromer and Aylsham over the last two weekends, the funding for the both Kitchenettes is now complete and 500+ children can now enjoy their rice meal all year, hopefully leading to better health and improved school attendance. Grateful thanks to all who contributed and especially to Morrison’s Supermarket for allowing us to collect in their Cromer store.
