UPDATE: a superb effort by so many people at our 6th Annual Plant Sale on Saturday 20th May raised ALL THE MONEY needed for this project!! so it is now complete.Grateful thanks to all who came, contributed items for sale, helped set up, serve on the stalls and clear up, especially our wonderful SUPPORTERS.
Also thanks to local business: J.B Postle [printing sponsors], Woodgate Nursery, Hill Farm Cottage Nursery and Threeways Nursery [donation of plants] and Showcase Gallery North Walsham [poster distribution]. A great team effort.
Sister Franny and her colleagues work with families in the country areas around the town of Pursat, between Phnom Penh and Battambang. They run ‘pop-up’ education classes after school in 8 different areas a week, reaching over 700 children in whatever accomodation is available. The classes cover language, creative art, music and dancing and provide an opportunity for inter-active group work, a teaching method virtually unknown in Cambodian government schools.
Sister Franny says, “As the children are often hungry when they arrive because they have not eaten enough during the day, we provide a light rice meal before we start the lessons so they concentrate better”. This costs $100 a month and Support Cambodia will finance this for a year. Any help you can give will be much appreciated.
There are many spin-offs from this work: better nourished children enjoy better health, learn better and are less burden on their families, the group work promotes co-operation and social cohesion and the contact with the Sisters provides much needed support for families, especially the women.
