For the second successive year, the Support Cambodia Plant Sale on May 18th broke the £2000 barrier….all in one extraordinary morning. Widespread advertising [thanks especially to JB Postle, MF Barnwell and Showcase Gallery North Walsham for helping with this] ensured a packed car park, queues at the gate and a frenzy of buying the 100’s of quality plants donated by 8 local nurseries [see below for names] and a number of private growers.
Inside the Hall, the Cambodian Craft stall also did brisk business with ‘Cambodian’ trousers, cotton tops and silk scarves proving very popular. The slightly cool weather ensured plenty of customers for bacon butties and tea in the Cafe and anyone looking to buy eggs or veg for the weekend was well satisfied, thanks to Bernard Webb, ES Burroughs [Beccles] and Richard’s Fruit & Veg. The Bake Stall also did very well – thanks so much to Ginny for organising it and to the many bakers who contributed.
The phenomenal amount of money raised means that Support Cambodia will be able to fund the 30 bikes requested by JSC Sisophon and 11 further bikes at Pailin and Nikum. Any remaining money will be held against further requests for bicycles later in the year.
Thanks to everyone who contributed in any way, particularly to those who worked so hard early on to set up in record time and the hardy few who helped clear up at the end.
Participating nurseries this year were: Bawdeswell Garden Centre, Creake Plant Centre, Hill Farm Cottage Nursery, Jelly Cottage Nursery, Lilac Nurseries [Fakenham], Three Ways Nursery [Sporle], West Acre Gardens, Woodgate Nursery[Aylsham].
Support Cambodia also thank our 2018/19 Administration Sponsors for advertising the event on their premises.
The provisional date for next year’s Plant Sale is SATURDAY 16th MAY
